The Process
The Abu Dhabi Building Code (2009 IBC) Sections 1704.1.1 and 107.1 requires an applicant for a building permit to submit a Statement of Special Inspections prepared by the Project Designer as a condition for issuance of the permit. Assistance with the preparation of this document is a service we provide and is highly recommended for consultants going through this process for the first time.
Once the building permit is issued the Statement of Special Inspections provides the road map for the scheduling of inspections. Developers who wish to adhere to the intent as well as the word of the code, and who wish to make sure that the Special Inspections do in fact assure a sound building, will want to make sure that their Special Inspections agency is accredited to ISO 17020.
A representative from the relevant contractor’s side on site will be identified, and they will coordinate with our dispatcher to make sure that the correct inspector is always on site at the correct time and that no delay is caused due to the Special Inspections except for the correction of sub-standard work.
